Women have made big advancements in the C-suite over the past decade, according to new research conducted by McKinsey and gender equity organization Lean In.
The study, published yesterday, found that women now make up 29% of executive-level C-suite positions — up from just 17% in 2015 — across 281 organizations, employing a total of 10 million people. The number of women who hold VP and senior VP roles has also risen by 7% and 6%, respectively.
While more women have climbed to the upper echelons of the corporate ladder, the share of women holding managerial positions only grew by 2% over the same period. And, overall, women — and in particular women of color — remain underrepresented at every stage of seniority in the corporate pipeline, per McKinsey.
