Even earthquakes can’t rattle TSMC’s earnings outlook
The seismic demand for high-powered chips to facilitate the AI boom is more powerful than actual seismic activity.
That’s the read from TSMC, which said that a 6.4-magnitude earthquake that struck Taiwan on January 1 would cause NT$5.3 billion (roughly $160 million) in losses for the first quarter while weighing on production — but the foundry company plans to make it all back over the balance of the year.
“The Company is making every effort to recover the lost production, and there is no change to our full-year outlook,” management said.
