Gunmakers rise as the political climate in the U.S. intensifies
The fraught American political climate is expected to help drive gun sales higher this election year. After gunmaker Smith & Wesson reported strong quarterly profit numbers on March 8, CEO Mark P. Smith said he expected robust firearm demand during the fourth quarter.
"The election year is always a healthy demand period for the firearms industry," he said.
Smith & Wesson jumped nearly 30% on the day. Sturm, Ruger rose nearly 4%.
