In a rare move, Apple is making its streaming TV service available on Android
Netflix has so many subscribers — more than 300 million — that it’s going to stop keeping track. Apple TV+ is a different story.
While Apple doesn’t disclose its TV+ user numbers, outsiders have estimated it has about 25 million subscribers, or just 8% of what Netflix has, and is among the smallest streaming services.
To rectify that, the little fish is jumping into a bigger pool. Bloomberg reports that Apple will soon announce it’s expanding Apple TV+ to Android users, the operating system owned by its biggest smartphone competitor, Google. It’s a rare move for the iPhone maker, which has notoriously kept very siloed, in an effort to grow subscriptions.
Apple TV+ revenue is part of Apple’s growing “services” segment, which includes everything from advertising to Apple Pay.
