Baidu offers its chatbot for free as OpenAI’s pay model gets more complicated
OpenAI’s product road map and pricing structure is getting more complicated. Over in China, Baidu says it will offer its Ernie AI chatbot for free to individual users starting in April. Previously, users paid about $8 a month.
This is the latest volley from a Chinese AI company that could undermine some of its Chinese and American competitors. Just last month, Chinese startup DeepSeek unleashed its free model, sending American AI companies into a frenzy over the idea that their competition could offer comparable models without as much investment.
