ChatGPT cocreator named chief AI scientist of Meta’s “superintelligence” team
Meta’s “superintelligence” team is taking shape. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has successfully wooed at least 10 AI all-stars from archrival OpenAI (with pay packages reported to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars), and now he’s named OpenAI’s Shengjia Zhao, the cocreator of ChatGPT, as the head of research.
Zuckerberg posted on Threads that Zhao’s role is being formalized with the new title:
“Shengjia has already pioneered several breakthroughs including a new scaling paradigm and distinguished himself as a leader in the field. I’m looking forward to working closely with him to advance his scientific vision.”
Meta’s team also includes top AI leaders and researchers from Apple, Anthropic, Google, DeepMind, and Microsoft’s GitHub. Reports said the company plans to hire more than 50 people for the team.
