Elon Musk’s companies more than doubled their spending on each other last year
And that’s before Tesla invested $2 billion in xAI, which it has since converted to a stake in SpaceX.
Tesla just amended its annual filing, offering a clearer look at how much Elon Musk’s companies are paying one another. The updated 10-K adds previously undisclosed related-party transactions, showing those dealings more than doubled to about $600 million in 2025, up from roughly $240 million in 2024.
Of course, that’s still small relative to a company that posted nearly $95 billion in revenue last year, but it’s notable given the ties to Musk’s other businesses. And that’s before Tesla’s separate $2 billion investment in xAI was announced earlier this year, which, following xAI’s merger with SpaceX, also gives Tesla a stake in the latter.
xAI’s payments to Tesla, mostly for the giant rechargeable battery systems known as Megapacks, more than doubled to $430 million in 2025 from $198 million in 2024. SpaceX, meanwhile, spent $143 million last year primarily on Tesla vehicles for the first time “at rates generally available to unaffiliated third parties.” Tesla sold about one in five Cybertrucks registered in the US last year to Musk’s other companies.
Tesla, for its part, shelled out $4.8 million for security services to Musk’s personal security company, up from $2.8 million in 2024.
