That’s how much Apple’s smartphone sales in China slipped in the final quarter of 2024, as local competitors Huawei and Xiaomi overtook the iPhone maker in the world’s largest smartphone market, up 15.5% and 3.9%, respectively, according to a new report from Counterpoint Research.
In the same period last year, Apple captured an impressive 20.2% market share, making it the biggest player in the smartphone game in China. However, consumers seem to have cooled a little on Tim Cook’s devices — perhaps unenthused by the latest models, even with added Apple Intelligence.
Apple’s stock is down 1.8% in premarket trading.
Disappointingly for the tech giant, Counterpoint is just the latest analytics firm to publish research on Apple’s woes in Asia, after the stock fell 3% last week in the wake of a different report about the company being dethroned in China.
