Microsoft and OpenAI have agreed on a definition of artificial general intelligence
OpenAI can terminate its $13 billion partnership with Microsoft when the startup achieves artificial general intelligence — a squishy, debated term that generally means when AI can perform any tasks a human does. OpenAI has defined AGI as “highly autonomous systems that outperform humans at most economically valuable work.”
It turns out the leaders and lawyers behind these giant tech companies wanted something a bit more concrete to base their decision on.
According to new reporting by The Information, the agreement said “AGI would be achieved only when OpenAI has developed systems that have the ability to generate the maximum total profits to which its earliest investors, including Microsoft, are entitled,” which is about $100 billion in profits.
