Reddit is trying to become Google before Google becomes Reddit
To bypass the diminishing quality of Google Search, people have been appending “Reddit” to their searches in hopes of getting better answers from the social forum. Google itself has been hoovering up the web in order to provide AI-generated answers to users and keep them on its site. Reddit’s content, a major source used to train generative-AI models, is now rolling out its own AI search and answer tool: Reddit Answers.
When asked questions, the conversational AI interface will provide “curated summaries of relevant conversations” on Reddit, including links to related communities and posts. It’s essentially a more direct way of getting Reddit-fueled information than from using Google or ChatGPT.
“AI-powered search is part of our longer-term vision to improve the search experience on Reddit — making it faster, smarter, and more relevant,” the company said in a blog post.
For now, it’s only in English and available to a limited number of users, but Reddit says it plans “to expand to additional languages and locations in the future.”
