Airlines are taking off on — you guessed it — possible tariff relief
After sinking more than 5% Tuesday, US airlines find themselves cautiously in recovery mode on Wednesday as investors cross their fingers for potential targeted tariff relief.
JetBlue, American Airlines, and United Airlines are all up more than 3% Wednesday, not quite erasing Tuesday’s losses caused by fears that tariffs could limit Canadian visitations to the US and also raise ticket prices.
The positive swing follows earlier comments by Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick that President Trump could provide tariff relief for certain industries and products compliant with USMCA regulations, the trade deal established in Trump’s first administration. Auto stocks are similarly making a U-turn on the day.
