As crypto prices popped this year and bitcoin broke new records, the dollar value of the coins lost to hackers also skyrocketed.

According to blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis, hackers boosted $2.2 billion from crypto platforms in 2024. That represents a 21% increase on the year. Notably, North Korean-linked hackers are thought to be responsible for $1.34 billion of those losses alone.
