Sherwood

Editorial Standards

Overview

Sherwood Media produces Sherwood News as well as newsletters including Chartr and Snacks. Sherwood’s team of writers and editors work hard to make markets and business news accessible to everyone, an integral part of Robinhood’s greater mission to democratize finance for all.

In helping to achieve this important mission, Sherwood’s editorial team aims to deliver news coverage that’s accurate and fair and free from real and perceived conflicts of interest. As a subsidiary, Sherwood Media is independent from Robinhood and takes great care to ensure our neutrality and credibility. Nothing is more important than earning and maintaining the trust of all our readers and viewers.

How we create our content

Sherwood’s writers and editors cover a mix of headline news and other stories that we think our audience will find relevant, informative, and intriguing. We conduct research using a variety of primary sources (including economic data, financial reports, press releases, and public statements) and secondary sources (primarily news articles).

Our overarching goal is to deliver valuable finance and markets news with a unique perspective for our readers.

Editorial disclosures

The Sherwood team takes conflicts of interest very seriously. We will cover any news we think is newsworthy, appropriate, and interesting to our readers. All reporters and editors on staff are required to disclose on his/her bio page ownership of any individual stock or crypto, with the exception of Robinhood stock, which is part of the entire team’s compensation.

We also ask reporters and editors to disclose any beneficial interest in an account that owns a stock or a cryptocurrency. Examples of beneficial interest include a joint account with one’s spouse or child; a trust account in which one is the trustee; and other accounts of related people over which one has control.

Covering Robinhood and its competitors

When it comes to our parent company, Sherwood will cover Robinhood when we think it’s appropriate, such as following earnings reports or other major news announcements. We will also cover news about Robinhood’s competitors, just as we do any other company. We disclose the relationship between Robinhood and Sherwood each time within the body of our reporting.

Regulatory restrictions around IPOs that Robinhood participates in

As a subsidiary of Robinhood, Sherwood Media is restricted from writing about any company preparing to do an Initial Public Offering (IPO) if Robinhood is a selling group member of the IPO. We are also restricted by a regulatory “blackout” or “quiet period” following the IPO from covering those companies for a period of roughly 25 days after the stock begins trading.

How we manage corrections

When we make a minor correction, such as fixing a typo, we’ll update the online version of the newsletter and wherever else the error may appear. When a substantial factual error warrants a correction, we’ll update the online newsletter and include a correction in the next available email newsletter.

For video content, when there’s a substantial factual error that warrants a correction, we’ll note it in the next available video or consider replacing the video with a corrected version. We may update videos if, in light of developing news events, they no longer meet our standards.

Gifts

To avoid real or perceived conflicts, we can’t accept gifts, tickets, discounts, meals, travel, hotel stay, and the like from people, companies, or organizations we cover or may cover. An exception: we can accept gifts whose value is $100 or less.
