Aehr Test Systems soars after “world-leading hyperscaler” boosts its order
Semiconductor testing equipment maker Aehr Test Systems is mooning after saying that a major hyperscaler has ordered even more of its systems to appraise their AI processors.
Nearly one year ago, the company first announced initial orders for its new systems (called Sonoma) from a hyperscaler customer, and said that it received follow-on orders this July.
“We are very pleased that this leading hyperscaler has increased its forecast and placed additional volume production orders for our Sonoma systems so soon after last month’s order,” President and CEO Gayn Erickson said. “This customer is one of the premier large-scale data center providers developing its own AI processors, and they have already indicated plans to expand capacity for this initial device and add additional AI devices over the next year.”
Erickson shouted out Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, and Meta as hyperscalers making their own custom AI chips (ASICs) that could benefit from Aehr’s testing products.
High-profile, narrowly defined hyperscalers added to Aehr’s partial list of customers between mid-January and June included Google and Microsoft. In April, Aehr said that it anticipated the Sonoma systems initially ordered in September 2024 would be installed during that quarter.
Based on the timing of when the initial orders were received and shipped, I’d wager this is the “Customer B” referenced in the annual report for Aehr’s fiscal 2025, published last month.
