California-based electricity provider on track for biggest loss in two years as wildfires wreak havoc
Edison International is the worst-performing US utility stock in early trading on Wednesday as wildfires tear through California, off more than 5% in what would be its biggest daily decline since September 2022.
Edison’s subsidiary, Southern California Edison, began shutting off power to some customers in LA County on Tuesday and warned nearly 300,000 homes and businesses that they’re at risk of losing access to electricity.
Put-option volumes have spiked, already more than 15x the one-month daily average as of 9:55 a.m. ET.
