US stocks sharply higher on widespread rally
The S&P 500 posted its largest gain in a month, rising 1% and achieving its longest winning streak in eight months. Meanwhile the Nasdaq 100 and Russell 2000 Indexes gained 1.1% apiece.
More than four S&P 500 stocks rose for every one that declined. All 11 S&P sector ETFs were higher on the day for the first time since May, with tech and materials leading the way.
Chipmakers were standout performers, with the VanEck Semiconductor ETF up 2.4% and all 25 of its constituents positive. TSMC’s strong earnings report was a positive catalyst for the space as a whole.
Meanwhile, Tesla extended its winning streak to 11 sessions.
