Report: Weeks after raising $10 billion, Musk seeking another $12 billion for xAI to buy Nvidia GPUs
Fresh off a $10 billion funding round and an embarrassing episode involving its Grok model declaring itself “MechaHitler,” Elon Musk’s xAI needs even more cash for Nvidia GPUs for its massive data center expansion plans.
Reportedly, xAI has been burning through piles of cash — as much as $1 billion per month.
On Tuesday, The Wall Street Journal reported that xAI is working with Valor Equity Partners to raise another $12 billion to help pay for its goal of securing 1 million Nvidia GPUs for its methane-spewing Colossus (and Colussus 2) data centers.
xAI recently released a series of Grok 4 AI models, which the company says have topped many of the leading AI benchmarks, yet the chatbot has not achieved the widespread adoption of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, or Anthropic’s Claude.
