CDC signs off on narrower Covid shot recommendation
Moderna slipped after the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced on Monday that it is adopting a narrower recommendation for when COVID-19 booster shots are appropriate.
The CDC’s recommendation aligns with what its advisory committee voted for last month, which was for a healthcare provider to sign off on each individual immunization. While that is much narrower than the broad backing of the shot, it’s less draconian than some investors previously priced in.
“CDC’s 2022 blanket recommendation for perpetual COVID-19 boosters deterred health care providers from talking about the risks and benefits of vaccination for the individual patient or parent,” Jim O’Neill, deputy secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, said in a statement.
“That changes today.”
