Luxury’s luster has faded with consumers, sending shares of companies like LVMH, L’Oreal, and Kering (parent company Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, and others) spiraling as shoppers, especially in China, aren’t splurging on designer handbags and Champagne.
That means, according to a report from Fortune, that three of France’s wealthiest billionaires — Bernard Arnault, the CEO of LVMH; L’Oreal heiress Francoise Bettencourt Meyers; and Francois Pinault, president and CEO of Kering — have lost a collective $58 billion this year.
Pinault has been hit the hardest as sales have been not-so-Gucci for the iconic brand, and Kering has warned that sales are expected to continue trending downward.
