More than 150 million people now have a Google One subscription, where they pay the search giant for features like extra storage or AI, a 50% increase from February 2024, Reuters reports. The service is part of Google’s plan to diversify away from ads, which account for the vast majority of its revenue.
While subs start at $1.99 a month for extra storage, they go up to $19.99 for access to Gemini Advanced, which the company says “millions” pay for. We’d be willing to bet, however, that the vast majority of that 150 million have simply forked over a couple of bucks just to avoid Gmail’s persistent “storage is full” warning.
