Trump’s FTC moves forward with Microsoft probe but delays Amazon trial
The Federal Trade Commission is moving forward with an antitrust probe into Microsoft, Bloomberg reports, to “determine whether Microsoft’s profits from other parts of the business give it an edge over other AI companies.” The FTC is looking into a variety of Microsoft’s business operations, including its data centers, software licensing practices, and its deal with OpenAI.
The probe, which was opened during the Biden administration, suggests President Donald Trump’s FTC is “going to prioritize scrutiny of tech giants,” Bloomberg noted.
That said, earlier today CNBC reported that the FTC requested a judge delay a trial against Amazon for deceptive Prime practices, citing staffing constraints.
For what it’s worth, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos sat in a seat of honor at Trump’s inauguration earlier this year, while Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella missed the event as he was on his way to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
