Volkswagen, BMW, and Chinese EV makers outsold Tesla in Europe last month
In February, Volkswagen and BMW each sold more fully electric vehicles in Europe than Tesla did, according to new data from auto consulting firm JATO Dynamics.
Tesla sales dropped 44% year over year, while overall fully electric EV sales grew 26% in Europe. The overall EV sales represent a monthly record, thanks to huge growth in electric vehicle sales by European automakers Volkswagen and BMW (if you include Mini).
If you combine sales in Europe by Chinese makers of fully electric vehicles, they also outsold Tesla, despite seeing year-on-year declines as well.
This year, Tesla has just under 8% of fully electric vehicle market share in Europe, down from 18% last year.
The news isn’t weighing on the stock today, though. Tesla is up about 9%.
