Tesla gets a new board member, Chipotle President John R. Hartung
Tesla has a new person on its board of directors: Chipotle President and Chief Strategy Officer John R. Hartung, who goes by Jack, according to a filing released this morning. The stock is up 1% premarket.
Hartung has been at Chipotle since 2002 in a number of roles, including CFO. Prior to that he spent nearly two decades at McDonald’s.
Hartung, who starts June 1, will be joining the EV company as it faces numerous headwinds, including declining sales, disappearing EV credits, and shrinking demand. Hartung, who will be retiring from his executive role at Chipotle but will still serve as a senior adviser, will also serve on the Audit Committee of the Board. Additionally, he’s also on the board of directors for Portillo’s, The Honest Company, and ZocDoc.
Hartung has a son-in-law who works at Tesla as a salaried service technician, the filing says. Unlike CEO Elon Musk, there are no “related party transactions” between the relatives that require disclosure.
Hartung joins eight other board members, including Musk.
