Open interest in GameStop calls with a $125 strike price that expire on January 17 (in 22 days) is virtually unchanged after spiking on December 16 amid signs of whale-like buying activity. These bullish options bets need another mania in shares of the embattled brick-and-mortar retail to be in the money.
Social-media buzz about the potential for another frenzy and short squeeze in the stock is swelling, despite there being a dearth of actual shorts.
Gill’s last micro missive on X prior to Christmas Day was a Time “Person of the Year” cover post on December 5.
