Regulators all over are after Google’s advertising business, too

First they came for Search and found it to be a monopoly. Now regulators are going after Google’s advertising business for antitrust behavior. Today the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority issued a statement saying it thinks Google is using its advertising dominance to prioritize its own ad tech services.

“Google disadvantages competitors and prevents them competing on a level playing field to provide publishers and advertisers with a better, more competitive service that supports growth in their business,” the statement read.

Next week the US Department of Justice begins its antitrust trial of Google’s ad business, after successfully arguing last month that its search business was a monopoly. The EU already determined in a preliminary ruling that Google abused its dominant advertising position and suggested Google break up its ad business (though, of course, Google is fighting it).
